Security Considerations

Since this software checks the operativeness of crucial system components, passwords are often required for the tests. ServerSentinel has to store these passwords in his database to do the regular checks. All passwords are stored encrypted.

The default configuration of ServerSentinel uses an embedded database which is located in the directory '%ProgramData%\JAM Software\ServerSentinel\embeddedDatabase\'. Please take care to set the access rights of this directory accordingly for production systems. Only the administrator and ServerSentinel account should have permission to read/write this file.

If you configure ServerSentinel to use a DBMS, please make sure that no unprivileged user is able to access the ServerSentinel database.
