Search history

When you add a search path with the plus button of the bar “Search in:”, the scan target dialog offers an additional page “Search history”. It lists the search targets you have used before, so that you can pick one of them again without assembling it a second time. It shows two groups, each under a heading of its own: Favorites, the paths you marked, and Search history, the remaining ones with the most recently used path at the top.

Unlike the drop-down of the bar, this page is not shortened – it shows the complete history – and it offers no drives.

Note

The page belongs to the file search, which is where the search history is kept. The scan target dialog of the main module does not offer it.

Marking favorites

Point at an entry to show its pin symbol on the left and click it to add the path to your favorites or to remove it from them again. Favorites always stay at the top of the list and are never dropped from it when the search history grows. With the keyboard, Space marks the current entry; Arrow Left steps onto the pin symbol itself, Arrow Right back to the entry.

Pins take effect immediately – there is no separate step to save them, and they are kept when you leave the dialog with “Cancel”. The same favorites appear in the drop-down of the bar.

Selecting several targets at once

This page accepts a multiple selection, just like the “Drives” page does: Ctrl + click adds an entry to the selection, Shift + click extends it up to the entry you click, and Enter or a double click confirms.

Targets that cannot be reached

An entry whose path does not currently answer is marked with a small grey cross over its icon, its caption is greyed out, and its tooltip reads “Currently not reachable.”. Network drives that Windows reports as disconnected are shown with the corresponding Windows symbol. A mark that is up stays up until the next check answers, so an entry can carry it for a while after the share has come back. Such entries stay selectable – a share may well be available again by the time the search starts.

Note

A path enters the search history only once a search has actually been run with it. Entering a path and then changing your mind therefore leaves no trace in the list.
