SharePoint

Scans SharePoint Online sites and local (on-premises) SharePoint servers.

Server name:

The address of the SharePoint site to scan, for example https://testserver.sharepoint.com. The easiest way to fill this in is to copy the address from your web browser.

Path (optional):

A subpath on the specified server (for example sites/general) to analyze only that path and everything below it. Leave this empty to scan starting from the server root.

Login with:

Determines how TreeSize authenticates against SharePoint. The fields below the dropdown change depending on the option you pick:

  • Windows account: Signs in using the same account you use to log in to Windows. This requires Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) to be set up (see below).

  • Interactive: Opens an interactive login prompt. Use this option if your organization requires multi-factor authentication (MFA).

  • Certificate: Authenticates using a saved certificate. Select the certificate file in the Certificate file location field.

  • User name: Authenticates with an explicit User name and Password for your SharePoint account.

Scan all SharePoint Site Collections:

Scans the complete SharePoint server together with all associated site collections, rather than a single site.

Add Configuration:

Opens the configuration for registering TreeSize as an application in Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD). This is required for the “Windows account” and “Interactive” (MFA) login options. See Microsoft Entra ID (formely Azure AD) Configuration for a step-by-step guide.

Entering the target directly

You can also start a SharePoint scan by entering the address into the drop-down box above the directory tree. Use the syntax https://servername.com/path/ to scan a single site. To scan a complete SharePoint server with all associated site collections, use sharepoint://servername.com/path/; TreeSize will then determine the actual protocol to use automatically (with a preference for HTTPS).

TreeSize will ask for the login information (user name and password) for a federated authentication, or it uses credentials contained within the URL, like https://user:password@servername.com/path/. Multi-factor authentication is supported if it is registered with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD).

Access without your own Microsoft Entra ID registration

TreeSize allows you to access your SharePoint directly without having to create your own Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) registration. This option is user-friendly and is aimed at users who want a simple and fast connection.

Please note that when you first log in, TreeSize will ask you for permission to perform scans or searches on SharePoint. In some cases this will require the approval of your administrator. This approval should be tenant-wide and is only required once per company/tenant. For granting tenant-wide consent without having to install TreeSize first, this link can be used.

Alternatively, you have the option of using your own Microsoft Entra ID registration. This option offers you extended control and flexibility if you want to control or further restrict access to your SharePoint for users, or use certificate-based authentication. See Microsoft Entra ID (formely Azure AD) Configuration for how to configure your own Microsoft Entra ID registration.
